First Two Days

, Seville

Around 5 AM I arrived at the airport and said goodbye to my dad. When I sat down to wait at the gate I was thinking about all that happened and I started crying a bit.

There was a second flight after changing the plane in Frankfurt. This one passed really fast. I only ordered a Falafel Hummus Bowl and slept afterwards. When I woke up I noticed the plane going down, only 15 minutes left.

I got a cab from the airport to the office where I needed to go to get the house key. On the drive I already recognized some streets I was walking on almost three years ago.

In the office I talked to one of the owners who is from Morroco. He was in Berlin a few months ago so I had some plus points there. He offered me to DJ at some events from Erasmus which would actually be pretty cool. Now I just need to know how to DJ.

With the key now in my bag I walked 30 minutes from the office to the house. I started sweating because it was hot and I had a big luggage, my backpack, and my laptop bag. I walked on the street Calle San Jacinto which I used to walk on when I first visited Sevilla almost three years ago. The first Airbnb I had was there in Triana. The street leads over the Triana bridge and eventually in that direction you end up at La Alameda de Hércules.

I recognized the main street that you have to walk on to get to the little side street of the house, one minute away from the Alameda. I chose the house before I came here because I didn't want the stress of searching here and I really liked this place. It's super close to La Alameda and it has a nice rooftop terrace for a good price. It has three floors for seven people and each floor has its own bathroom.

When I opened the door one of the flatmates greeted me and we immediately started talking. We went up a floor where I thought my room would be and she told me who is living there. I knocked on the door and another flatmate opened. Well, there was a misunderstanding about my room. Mine is on the third floor, which I now think may be even better because it's closest to our rooftop terrace. The other room just has a better window.

We three went up to the rooftop to talk a bit. It has some chairs and a table with a sunblocker above. The view is not the best but it has everything we need. The table could just be a bit longer to play beer pong.

At some point another flatmate and his sister arrived. After I took a shower I walked through the city with those two for a few hours and we saw the most important places like the cathedral with La Giralda or La Plaza de España. We also had our first tapas. I got some patatas bravas, tortilla, and beer. I missed the little bread snacks picos that they give you here before your food arrives. They look like mini baguettes.

When we returned to the house we were tired but we went up the rooftop again to talk and to have some wine. After a while we left for dinner. Now we were all 7 people that were staying in the house at the time.

We looked for a tapas place around La Giralda because it's close and it has lots of good restaurants/bars. I got some pechuga de pollo, espinacas con garbanzos, and a tinto de verano. Everyone felt sleepy from travelling at that point and we went back to the house except two of us who went to a party already. I think I'm lucky with the flatmates. They seem really chill.

Back home I just went up to the rooftop and called my girlfriend to catch up. Then I went to bed and before we slept we talked a bit again.

The first morning I woke up maybe a bit too early because the blinds I have are not blocking any light at all. I still felt fine and started the day by walking three minutes to my favorite café from three years ago, El Viajero Sedentario.

I recognized the waitress. When she brought me the pan con tomate y jamón and the café bombón we talked a bit. Mostly I just sat there just relaxing without my phone or anything. I also got a glass of wine to start the day because why not. It should be the start of a great time. I shortly called my girlfriend again. The owner of the café came there too later who was mostly serving me there three years ago.

Back home I did a bit of organizational stuff and then started chilling in the sun on the rooftop. I talked to a friend and had some Mahou beer. It was really nice to just sit there in the sun in 30°C. I think I'll spend a lot of time like this.

After having a chat with a flatmate I walked to the office again to pick up an Erasmus Card you need to attend events and walked immediately to the Parque de María Luisa.

They organized a tour there. The architectural style of the Plaza de España is called Regionalista which is a fusion of the styles Gothic, Renaissance, and Mudéjar. Mudéjar looks so good if I get a house in Spain I would consider building/buying in that style.

There was a picnic afterwards which was mostly Sangria and as a group of 15 people we went to get some tapas. There it got actually quite chilly outside. Lots of Erasmus people here are from Germany.

After eating we went to an Erasmus party in Terraza Alfonso. It's one of the many outdoor bars here. In front of it I ran into my flatmates and we spent the night together. After getting some beers we were dancing in front of the DJ booth and talked to some nice people.

At some point there were two people kissing so hard they even got into our group. They tripped and crashed into the DJ booth. Music stops and security first thought it was me. I don't know if they found them but shortly afterwards the music continued and they put up a small barricade so we couldn't go directly in front of the DJ anymore.

In the end I got kinda bored so I left at 3 AM and walked home with someone from the flat for 40 minutes. It was still nice, though.

The first two days already felt pretty full and it just continues like that. Until today (September 5) I still haven't unpacked my luggage. Maybe I'd do that when I come back from the café now. Or I could also relax in the sun, hard decision. It was a good start and like I expected it's easier than first moving to Munich because here I'm living together with people who you automatically get to know and end up doing things with.

I won't describe everything as much as in this post but I thought it would be nice to remember how it started.
