La Feria de Abril

, Sevilla

La Feria de Abril (April Fair) is the most important event of the year in Seville.

It's held two weeks after Semana Santa and goes on for one whole week. This year it took place from April 23 to April 29.
There are two areas: one for casetas which are tents owned by families, friend groups, clubs, or even political parties. Most of the casetas are private, and you can only enter if you know someone from it.

The other area is an amusement park with food offerings, many rides, and games to play.

Everyone is dressed in a fancy way and looks great. Women typically wear a flamenco/gitana dress and men typically wear a suit.
Generally, it was already amazing to see everyone walking around dressed up. The atmosphere is great.
Then, until 6 or 7 in the morning people are drinking and dancing in the street or in their casetas.

Drinks are usually sherry, manzanilla, or rebujito (Manzanilla mixed with soda). The most common dance is sevillanas.

Luckily, we have friends from Sevilla, so we could also see how it's like in the private casetas. I preferred them a lot over the public ones, as the private ones are way less crowded.

We also tried a ferris wheel in the amusement park area and that was the fastest one I ever saw! It was so fast it felt like a roller coaster and when the car thing of the ferris wheel was coming up it was leaning over a lot. It felt almost illegal. It wasn't made to enjoy the ride, but it was fun.

On the last day of the Feria there are also fireworks at the river which we watched from one of the bridges.
